10 Things You Should Know About Governor Amaechi As He Turns 50

Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi turned 50 today, May 27, 2015.

The governor has spent two terms in office and will vacate the position on Friday, May 29.

Here are 10 things you should know about him:

  1. He was born in Ubima in the Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State

  2. He was raised in Diobu, a densely populated neighbourhood in Port Harcourt

  3. He attended St Theresa’s Primary School from 1970 to 1976.

  4. He earned his West African School Certificate in 1982 after attending the Government Secondary School in Okolobiri.

  5. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Studies and Literature from the University of Port Harcourt in 1987.

  6. He was the President of the National Association of Rivers State Students (NURSS) during his time in the University.

  7. He completed his one-year National Youth Service in 1988.

  8. After his youth service, he worked at Pamo Clinics and Hospitals Limited which was owned by Dr. Peter Odili, a former Governor of Rivers State.

  9. He became the fifth governor of Rivers State in 2007.

  10. He is married to Judith Amaechi and together they have three sons.
