Appointments: NANS Blasts Buhari

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Committee, Ogun state has joined the league of those lambasting President Muhammadu Buhari over the lopsidedness in his appointments so far.

The students body expressed its dismay at the lopsided nature of Buhari’s appointment as he gets set to mark 100 days in office.

In a release on Saturday and signed by the newly elected Chairman of NANS, JCC, Ogun state, Comrade Dotun Opaleye, wondered why the Northwest region, the geopolitical zone of the president has gulped 43% of the total number of appointees so far made by the president.

It would be recalled that controversies have trailed the latest appointment of the secretary to the federal government, the chief of staff and other appointees made by Buhari.

Arewa and  Igbo youths have issued separate statements condemning the appointment, while several groups from the southern part of the country have been allaying the fear that Buhari is on a mission to northernise Nigeria.

Ogun NANS revealed in its statement that the northeast region closely follow the northwest with 20% in the appointment, few days to the 100 days in office of  Buhari.

It stated that the entire southern Nigeria has a paltry combined percentage of 27%.

“Our amiable president who has enjoyed the goodwill of a vast majority of the citizenry shouldn’t mistake love for stupidity as Nigerians are daily growing disenchanted with his gross assassination of Federal character and insensitivity to some traditional consideration.

“Mr President has also deemed it fit in all the aura of his presidential prerogative and powers to appoint Colonel Hammed Alli (Retd.), who is a former Army officer responsible for firing over 30,000 striking workers in Kaduna as the new Comptroller General of the Nigerian Customs Service.

“Is it that all the officers in the top echelons of the service are incompetent or lack integrity”,the students group opined.

Commenting on the marginalisation of the feminine gender in the appointment made so far, the Ogun NANS said, “Gender sensitivity and equality has also been jettisoned as there is none in all of this appointments.

“If the southerners have been deemed by Buhari as hopelessly corrupt and incompetent and not suitable for leadership in his administration, does that also apply to the over hundred million females in the federation, where none of them is good enough for Buhari”, Opaleye queried.

NANS JCC Ogun axis advised Buhari to adjust and do the needful by balancing his appointments, so as not to incur the wrath of the citizens, especially from the south and the Nigerian woman.

Meanwhile, Nigeria’s former minister of aviation, Olufemi Olu-Kayode, has hailed the appointment of Abba Kyari as the chief of staff to Buhari.  He described Kyari as a good man and one of the brightest minds in the country.
