A social-cultural youth group, the Mangrove Boys Brigade of Bayelsa state, has given the All Progressives Congress (APC) a 15-day ultimatum to vacate the property it is using as the state secretariat.
This Day reports that the group has said that it officially wrote to President Muhammadu Buhari, urging him to direct the APC chapter in the state to immediately vacate the government owned property at Izagara Close, off Baybridge Road, Kpansia area of the state capital or face the wrath of the people.
According to Kingboy Peretimi Joshua, the spokesperson of the youth group, the letter to Buhari is against the backdrop of an earlier appeal for him to intervene in the matter.
Although the spokesperson did not reveal his group’s interest in the alleged government property, he stressed that the action of the APC in occupying the property is provocative.
“As a man, who believes in the rule law and its importance in a democratic dispensation like ours, we are calling on President Buhari, to as a matter of urgency prevail on Sylva and the APC to obey the subsisting court order, which had ordered the APC to vacate the said premises.
“We note with concern the actions of the APC in Bayelsa state, which are deliberate and intended to provoke violence, heat up the system and breakdown of law and order. If not nipped in the bud by Buhari, this matter will have far-reaching consequences,” Joshua noted.
The group spokesperson said that after several peaceful moves to have the APC vacate the property, the state government obtained an order of interim injunction from the High Court of Bayelsa state.
He recalled that the case was presided over by Justice G.S. Botei on July 22, 2015 to the effect that the APC should vacate the property, pending the determination of the motion on notice.
It is worth mentioning that it is the second time same group is issuing such ultimatum. In February 2015 members of the group warned Patience Jonathan not to come Yenagoa with her husband Goodluck Jonathan or risk being stoned.
