The Kaduna state governor, Nasir el-Rufai has served a suspension notice on the interim chairman of Kaduna North local government area, Alhaji Garba Kurfi, with immediate effect on an account of unauthorised demolition of structures in the local government.
The suspension which was passed on the chairman was said to have taken effect from Thursday, October 8, and signed by the secretary to the state government.
According to The Punch, it was alleged that the chairman ordered the indiscriminate marking and demolition of buildings in the on-going recovery of government land.
Speaking on behalf of the state governor in statement, the spokesman, Samuel Aruwan, disclosed that the suspended chairman is being investigated for unauthorised demolition of houses in Kaduna North local government.
The spokesman said: “The Kaduna state government has announced the suspension of the interim committee chairman of Kaduna North local government area.
“This action is taken to enable the government to thoroughly investigate the circumstances around the involvement of the suspended chairman in unauthorised activities in the land recovery process.”
According to reports, most of the buildings on Muri Road in the local government occupied by commercial printers were demolished on the order of the council, contrary to the directive of the state governor.
Meanwhile, Laolu Akande, the senior special assistant (SSA) on media and publicity to the vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, has denied reports making rounds that there had been rift between the vice president and Governor Nasir el’Rufai of Kaduna state.
He noted that it was a bunch of lies being sponsored by political dissidents who want to cause hostility in the country.
