A group known as the Young Democrats have alleged that the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari is planning to overthrow the leadership of the Senate through the backdoor haven failed to achieve that through the trial of Senator Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.
The pro Igbo group also raised fears that Senator Ike Ekweremadu who is the only voice of the Igbo in the political scene in Nigeria today could suffer from the onslaught against the leadership of the Senate by the federal government.
According to Vanguard, the chairman of the group, Stanley Ude told journalist on Thursday, June 23, that the Young Democrats will mobilize all and sundry to ensure that this matter would not stand.
Ude queried why the standing rule suddenly was forged when the same standing rule had been used to confirm appointments made by the Presidency, and the budget.
He urged the federal government to concern itself with fixing the economy of the country which is in a very bad state.
Meanwhile, Senate president, Bukola Saraki, and his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu could find themselves in trouble if fillers coming from the National Assembly are true.
The duo could be in for a tough time as a source in the National Assembly has alleged that the federal ministry of Justice plans to put pressure on the trial judge, Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Abuja High Court, to impose stringent conditions on the accused persons
