FACT CHECK: How Buhari Lied About Obama’s Cabinet Inauguration

President Muhammadu Buhari’s statement that the United State President, Barack Obama did not constitute his cabinet several months after inauguration is untrue, a fact check has revealed.

Buhari in an opinion article published in the Washington Post had said he will appoint members of his kitchen cabinet in September, 4 months after he was sworn in.

“When cabinet ministers are appointed in September, it will be some months after I took the oath of office. It is worth noting that Obama himself did not have his full cabinet in place for several months after first taking office; the United States did not cease to function in the interim” President Buhari said.

Buhari added that it won’t be in the interest of Nigerians if he had appointed ministers immediately he was sworn in.

“In Nigeria’s case, it would neither be prudent nor serve the interests of sound government to have made these appointments immediately on my elevation to the presidency; instead, Nigeria must first put new rules of conduct and good governance in place.”

Check conducted by budding prolific writer, Ofili speaks, revealed that Barack Obama appointed/confirmed 13 of 15 of his cabinet members within a week of his inauguration. Obama was inaugurated January 20, 2009.
