NCAA Cautions Passengers Against Carrying Samsung Galaxy Note 7 On Board Aircraft

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, yesterday warned passengers not to turn on or charge Samsung smart phone Galaxy Note 7 on board aircraft and should not even check them in as luggage. This is coming on the heels of earlier warning by the United States, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) officials on Thursday, September 8, 2016 that airline passengers should not turn on or charge a new-model Samsung smart phone during flights following numerous reports of the devices being highly inflammable .

Also, Vietjet, an international low-cost airline from Vietnam, had also warned passengers not to carry Samsung Galaxy Note 7 in the form of check–in luggage. Commenting on the Samsung device yesterday, General Manager, Public Relations, NCAA, Mr Sam Adurogboye said “ Consequent upon recent incidents and concerns raised by Samsung about its Galaxy Note 7 devices, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has directed passengers not to turn on or charge these devices on board aircraft”.

“In addition, these phones must not be stowed away in any checked-in baggage. NCAA is appealing to the passengers’ responsibilities in relation to ensuring safety and security of air transportation”. “Importantly, all Airlines are hereby advised to emphasise the prohibition of this device on board during passenger briefings by the Cabin Crew. Similarly, all those responsible for searching or screening checked-in baggage are expected to intensify the procedures to identify possible checked-in Samsung Galaxy Note 7”.

“It will be recalled that Samsung has recalled over 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 devices. This became necessary due to several reported cases of overheating and outright explosion. However, investigation has traced these problems to charging and the company is limiting battery charging on Galaxy Note 7 devices to prevent inferno”.

“The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) therefore calls on all passengers and airline operators to ensure total adherence to this directive as safety and security of air transportation is paramount to the Authority”. “Earlier, a letter with reference NCAA/DOT/ALL OPS/VOL.1/00716 has been sent to all the Airlines and all other stakeholders for strict compliance”.

Boko Haram Willing To Discuss Surrender And Release Of Chibok Girls

Islamic extremist militants Boko Haram, who have killed at least 2,600 people in Nigeria, reportedly want to broker a deal with the government to release the remaining kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls in return for escaping execution. Two hundred schoolgirls were seized from a school in Chibok two years ago and have never been traced or found. It is believed only a third of them remain alive.
According to a report in The Times, senior members of the terrorist group told Nigerian newspaper Leadership Friday that it was prepared to negotiate a surrender and release the hostages on the condition they would not be not betrayed by the government or killed for giving up arms.
“We want to surrender because things are getting worse,” said Amir Muhammad Abdullahi, who is reportedly Boko Haram’s second in command. He said no side was winning the battle and that only a third of the girls remained as “the rest have been martyred”.
It comes as two Chibok girls have reportedly been released – one of whom called Amina Ali Darsha Nkeki who was found near Sambisa forest and believed to have been freed as a ‘gesture of good faith’ by the militants.
However, there was confusion mounting over whether the second girl, (who has not been named), was freed in a raid on a Boko Haram camp on 19 May, was from Chibok. Yakubu Nkeke told The Times: “I can say in my capacity as the head of the Chibok Abducted Girls Parents group that this girl is not among the abducted girls.”

Who are Nigeria’s Boko Haram terrorists?
Boko Haram (recently renamed Iswap) fights against Western influence in Nigeria and aims to impose its version of Sharia law on the country. The group declared an Islamic caliphate in Gwoza, along the Cameroon border, in August 2014.
Boko Haram has raided several cities in the north of the country in a bid to take control of more land.
Three states − Adamawa, Borno and Yobe − have been under a state of emergency since May 2013, due to Boko Haram’s attacks.
The group has killed at least 2,600 people since the beginning of 2015. More than 180 have been killed since the beginning of June.

Comedian, Seyi Law Lands Eko Hotel’s Security Guard With Three Dirty Slaps

It was a night of fun turn sour for Peter Ethan, a security guard at the prestigious Eko Hotel and suites, when popular award winning rib cracker, Seyi Law, ferociously slapped him across the face three times, as he was trying to maneuver his way out of Eko hotel just after the conclusion of the much-talked about Kiss Daniel’s album concert in the early hours of Monday, May 16 2016.

As invited guests and participants trooped out of the venue with satisfaction of a night well spent, also driving out in his Porsche car, Seyi Law was accosted by Peter Ethan, trying to inform him of an alternative route he could take to ease vehicular movement and avoid traffic. Suddenly, with the speed of light, Seyi Law angrily flew out of his car and dazed the security guard, Peter Ethan, with three hot resounding slaps that got him probably seeing stars and staggering for balance. Lost for words as to why Seyi Law bullied him in such a rascally manner, the security guard burst into uncontrollable tears.

On seeing their colleague in such an emotional state, Peter’s fellow security guards rushed to the spot to inquire what transpired.

Immediately they got the gist of what happened, they took sides with Peter, one of them even attempted to physically harass Seyi Law, but for the intervention of a few peacemakers and Seyi’s quick escape instincts, he would have been lynched by an angry mob that began to build.

While speaking to Potpourri at the scene on what actually transpired, an emotionally unstable Peter tearfully recounted his bitter ordeal “I was only trying to redirect him through an alternative route which my boss instructed us on, to avoid traffic jam as guests drive out.

“To my greatest surprise, Seyi Law just jumped out of his car and began to hurl abusive words at me. While trying to explain to him he just suddenly gave me three dirty slaps. This has never happened to me before, is it because I’m putting on a security uniform? I didn’t expect this kind of attitude from Seyi Law”.

Why I called pastor Adeboye a murderer – Kemi Olunloyo

The controversial daughter of Victor Omololu Olunloyo – a former governor of Oyo State, Kemi Olunloyo, has come up with reasons she called the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor E. O Adeboye a murderer.

The media personality, in a recent interview with Pulse Television, had accused Adeboye of murder;

She said, “Pastor Adeboye killed a cop in 1971. I’m saying this in front of a camera. I have always posted it on Facebook and Twitter but I am saying it on camera now.

“He thought he was shooting an armed robber in his house but it was actually a cop that broke in and he got killed.

“That’s why I call him a murderer; If you murder somebody, you will continue to be a murderer; he is a murderer,” the 51-year-old activist stated.

However, when asked why she was making the ‘weird claim’, Kemi said, “Pastor Adeboye said if you are single mother, you have no worth.

“He said it in one of his speeches in his church and that’s the real reasons I went after him

“I am a single mother, we have worth. We don’t have to be married,” she continued.

“I have people on Facebook telling me: ‘how come you have children?’

“You don’t have to be married to have children,” she quipped.

Vanguard learned that the suspect, identified as Happiness Umaru, was intercepted at Eric Moore in Surulere by policemen attached to the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, at about 10p.m. on March 16. It was gathered that during interrogation Umaru initially claimed to be the biological father of the baby. He later confessed that he found the baby around Ijora Railway, when he went into a bush to answer the call of nature.

After the case was transferred to the Gender Department for further investigation, officers from the unit visited the scene of the incident, where they located the biological mother of the baby.

Lagos To Phase Out Motorcycles, Danfo

Lagos State government may soon phase out commercial motorcycles popularly known as okada the ‘yellow’ buses otherwise called as ‘Danfo,’ according to investigation. The move, impeccable sources in the state Governor’s Office said, was meant to bring sanity into the transportation sector, beginning from eradication of the operation of the commercial motorcycles in every nook and cranny of Lagos.

The latest attempt, it was learnt, was due to the increasing crime rate and violence caused by the flagrant abuse of the Lagos Traffic Law 2012, which prohibits the operations of commercial motorcyclists on 450 major roads and bridges. Hence, there is plan by the State Executive Council to review the Lagos Traffic Law, 2012 through the House of Assembly from partial ban of commercial motorcycles to total ban.

It was gathered that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode is predisposed to the flagrant abuse of the law by the motorcyclists and the commercial bus drivers who flout all the provisions of the law.

Sources said that despite the arrest of okada riders by the state Task Force on Environment and Special Unit, the governor was still not satisfied with the presence of commercial motorcycles in some areas, especially the prohibited areas.

Hence, in the last eight months, three chairmen of the task force had been sacked and appointed. “Ambode is not comfortable with the continued operation of the motorcyclists but as a listening governor, he would not just ban them immediately when he assumed office. There is an existing law which regulates their operation.

“Legally, the law will be reviewed and a drastic decision will be made which is imposing a total ban on their operation,” a source said. Another senior top government official also said that recent bloody clash at Mile 12 emphasised the need to phase out okada.

“It is not unconnected with the bloody clash in Ketu-Mile 12 area of the state, which was triggered by a dispute between an Okada operator and a passer-by, which led to loss of lives and property worth millions of naira,” the official said.

In addition to the Mile 12 clash, it was also gathered that the increasing reports of robbery carried out with the use of motorcycles might have necessitated the move. “Robbers now find it very easy to operate with the aid of okada.

No serious government will fold its arms and watch criminals take over the state. I think Lagosians should prepare for total ban of this means of transportation,” he added. According to him, government is considering a better means of transportation befitting a mega city like Lagos.
