The security officials disclosed to Premium Times that about four gunmen swopped on the victim in his farm located in Wamakko LGA and whisked him away together with some other people.
The unknown assaulters later freed the rest of the abducted people after having travelled a reasonable distance with them. Barade is still detained by the captors.
However, the efforts to contact them have been unsuccessful.
El-Mustapha Sani, Sokoto state police command public relations officer, confirmed the kidnap. The investigation into the matter has started.
Leadership adds that the abduction might have political undertones, with the April 11 elections ahead.
The source who pleaded for anonymity, explained wht Wamakko’s brother had been kidnapped. He said that the aim was to divert the governor’s attention from the polls, so that his political grip on the state does not reoccur.
