FIFA has released the latest rankings for the month of July and the rankings shows that Nigeria has moved up four places from 57th to 53rd.
The Super Eagles were formally ranked as the 57thbest national team in the world and 10th in Africa but have moved up four places while retaining their place as the 10 best team in Africa.
The African countries topping Nigeria in ranking are: Algeria (19th), Ivory Coast (21st), Ghana 27th), Tunisia (34), Senegal (39), Cameroon (42th), Congo (43rd), Cape Verde Island (50th), Egypt (52nd).
The top ten teams in order are: Argentina, Belgium, Germany, Columbia, Brazil, Portugal, Romania, England, Wales and Chile who were crowned Copa America champions.
The following teams have achieved their highest-ever position: Wales (9th, up 1), Austria (14th, up 1), Slovakia (14th, up 1), Albania (22nd, up 14), Congo (43rd, up 4) and Guam (146th, up 8).
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles hope to confirm the possibility of playing their arch rivals, the Black Stars of Ghana in a friendly slated for next month in London.
