Nigerians ask chief of army staff to resign


It was reported on Friday, June 24, that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai and his two wives were joint owners of home in Dubai, which was bought through one transaction. The funds for the purchase of the property were taken from a suspicious vehicle contract at the time when Buratai was the Director of Procurement at the Army Headquarters.

However, the Nigerian army revealed that Buratai indeed has assets in Dubai, prior to becoming chief of army staff. The army described the report that COAS and his wives jointly owned properties in UAE, as “false and misleading” after a certain “single” transaction.

The military further stated that the two Dubai properties were officially declared when Buratai was appointed as the nation’s chief of army staff. The news of the COAS owing properties in Dubai has however caused an outrage amongst Nigerians. Nigerians in their reactions have called for the resignation of Buratai, saying that he should be probed, while some are not convinced that he bought the house with the salary as a military personnel. Read their reactions below:
