Ahead of the August 17 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), some pressure groups have thrown their weight behind the aspiration of Chief Olabode George, Professor Tunde Adeniran and Otunba Gbenga Daniel to become the next chairman of the party. On its part, the South-West PDP Professionals, in a statement by Dr. Akeem Fijabi and Mrs Adeola Opaleye, president and secretary respectively, said South-West cannot present anyone less than the pedigree of George, who it classified as bridge-builder across the length and breath of the country.
Also, a group of political leaders in Ekiti State, under the aegis of Ekiti Integrity Forum, has thrown its weight behind a former Minister of Education, Professor Tunde Adeniran as National Chairman of the party. In a statement by its spokesperson, Otunba Dayo Olanrewaju, the group said “without mincing words, if you check the records, Prof. Adeniran stands tall among the contestants.”
Similarly, a group known as The Reformers said the aspiration of the former Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel to run for the position of National Chairman of the PDP has been described as a decision which is far beyond him to relinquish. In a statement by its coordinator, Mr John Adenekan the group said “though Otunba Gbenga Daniel is yet to announce his ambition, neither has he accepted nor declined our calls among several other stakeholders’ request for him to join the party chairmanship contest, we shall continue to impress it on him and all people of good conscience to make his emergence as PDP National Chairman a reality.”
