A policeman in Tura, a suburb of Bauchi state, has shot and killed his lover over a rumoured relationship she was having with his best friend.
The dead woman, Jamila Rahama, who is reported to have been in her mid-30s, was shot over the weekend at around 1pm when the policeman simply known as Abdul (aka Barrister) entered a house which he heard was occupied by his girlfriend and best friend.
An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, told the Sun that the policeman was angry that his best friend was sleeping with his lover, stormed to a house where they were, and shot and killed her instantly.
“After killing her, he left the house. He was later arrested by the police,” the witness said.
The landlord of the house was initially arrested, but after an investigation into his involvement was later released on bail.
Another source said that Barrister had “heard news that she was sleeping with his friend. She had a child for the policeman and he really loved her, but maybe things fell apart between them and she started dating someone and that provoked him.”
The incident was confirmed by the Bauchi state police spokesman, Haruna Mohammed yesterday.
In a related incident, another trigger happy policeman shot dead a tricycle driver, Akeem Aranse, during an argument in Shasha, Akowonjo area of Lagos state.
