Policemen arrested for extorting money from CP’s son

Three policemen attached to the Ketu Police Station are being interrogated over allegations that they extorted a Commissioner of Police’s son. It was gathered that the policemen were said to be on patrol duties at Ketu, when they stopped a young man driving a vehicle with tinted glasses and demanded for his particulars.

After clarifying that the unnamed young man had his papers in order, the policemen went ahead to demand for his tinted glass permit, which he did not provide.

A source said the policemen threatened to take the young man to their station and then started negotiating for a bribe to let the man off the hook. Vanguard learned that he told the policemen that he did not have any money but the policemen insisted he can get money with his Automated Teller Machine, ATM, card. A police source added that the policemen followed him to the ATM stand where he withdrew an undisclosed amount to settle them.

It was gathered that the bubble burst after the young man reported the incident to his father, who is a Commissioner of Police. His father directed him to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatia Owoseni, who immediately ordered the arrest of the policemen. The policemen are being detained at the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Unit at Panti, Yaba.
