Shehu Garba, the senior special assistant on media and publicity to President Muhammadu Buhari ahs come under attack for saying the president has treated all Nigerians equally since he assumed office in May 2015. Garba in a series of tweets said to suggest that Buhari’s government was deepening the division between Muslims and Christians is not only false but also playing into the hands of the dreaded Boko Haram sect who wish to divide Nigerians along religious lines.

Presidential spokesman, Garba Shehu says Buhari treats all Nigerians equally He was reacting to a recent article by the UK Telegraph, claiming that the President Buhari-led administration is targeting Christians and the opposition. A number of Nigerians are of the opinion that Buhari’s decisions and appointments are in favour of the northerners and Muslims.

Recently, Western aid officials raised concerns about the Nigerian government’s handling of the boko haram crisis, saying Britain’s Department for International Development contributes an estimated £870 million to Nigeria to support the government’s ability to fight Boko Haram. They alleged that Buhari is using some of the aid to persecute Christian political rivals instead of tackling Islamist militants.

However, Garba debunked the report, saying the UK government does not give development aid to the Nigerian administration for use in military operations against Boko Haram. Many Nigerians seem not to agree with Garba’s statement that Buhari has not been bias as they took to social media to criticise him. Some called him dumb while others described him as a liar.
