In its quest to promote good learning environments, a non-governmental organisation and the Shoprite Community Network has renovated St. Martins Nursery and Primary School, Mushin. Lagos. Speaking at the handover ceremony, the CEO, Mrs Marvella Odili said: ‘’We owe it to the Nigerian child to make the learning environment as conducive as possible so he/she can be encouraged to study and become a better a better person in future.’’

According to her, education increases opportunity and enables people create better lives for themselves, stressing that education is the key to a better life.

She said that Children are happier, they learn better and they perform better when they are in a clean, safe, secure environment Odili who noted that quality education for every child irrespective of his/her social background should never be compromised, added that it is time to encourage all children to sit up and take their studies seriously because their future depends on it. She said: ‘’These children are our children. They have the right to learn in a conducive environment. That is non-negotiable. We should not let them suffer any form of discomfort.’’

She maintained that without education, sustainable development cannot be achieved, adding that education and sustainable development go hand in hand. Her words: ‘’The Lagos State government is making a lot of effort to improve the learning conditions of pupils in the State. As corporate organizations, NGOs and even individuals, we can contribute our little quota to boost the efforts of the government.
