The rancor which reportedly characterized the closed-door of the Nigerian Senate, have stirred deeper investigations which have revealed dirty secrets regarding the outburst of Senator Dino Melaye and Senator Remi Tinubu.

Senator Dino Melaye’s outburst against Senator Remi Tinubu has stirred great controversy. Sources reveal that Senator Dino Melaye made many derogatory remarks, including his use of the F-word on a female colleague. Sahara Reporters had earlier reported how Mr Melaye threatened and made defamatory remarks to Senator Remi Tinubu (APC Lagos Central Senatorial District) Melaye also threatened to kill anyone who showed up to testify against Senate President Bukola Saraki and Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu in their ongoing forgery case. Senators present during the meeting told newsmen that Melaye’s meltdown was far worse than initial reports suggested.

It would be recalled that Melaye threatened, in effect, to rape Mrs Tinubu, saying he would beat her up and ‘impregnate’ her on (the floor of the Senate) “and nothing will happen.” In a related report on Wednesday, July 13, Premium Times quoted one of the Senators as confirming Melaye’s full statement to be, “Look this is not Bourdillon (the Lagos residence of Mrs. Tinubu’s politician husband, APC National Leader Ahmed Bola Tinubu).  I will beat you up…impregnate you and nothing will happen.” The source described the event as being one of those dirty sessions in the Senate, saying,

“There [were] ramblings, uproar and profanities. It was so sad.” Sources Senate sources told SaharaReporters Mr. Melaye let Mrs. Tinubu have the full brunt of his anger, telling her “F… you!” Apparently then thinking about what he had just said, he added condescendingly that he would not actually do that because it would be like being with a dried-up Bonga (dry fish).

“I would rather be with a more robust and beautiful woman like Stella Oduah,” Melaye assured Mrs. Tinubu.

Melaye has over time proved to have a problem with women, with his volatile marriages the source of juicy gossip in the media in recent years because of reported abuse allegations against him.

According to Sahara Reporters, Melaye’s first wife, Tokunbo Melaye, reported that he had repeatedly beaten her when she was pregnant, and later posted photos online to show the public how abusive Melaye had been to her. He became embroiled in a messy adultery case during his marriage to Tokunbo when Nollywood actress Bisi Ibidapo Obe accused him of being responsible for her pregnancy.

On Twitter, Tokunbo accused him of lying about his relationship with the actress, stating among other choice words, “You have a Masters degree in lying, but I have a Ph.D. in detecting bullsh*t!” In 2015, Melaye reportedly used unlawful bank accounts he opened and runs in the United States to remove a tattoo of his second wife, Alero Melaye, from his body while he was on an official trip to the United Nations with embattled Senate President Bukola Saraki. His marriage to Alero, which was also short-lived, was similarly marred by allegations of physical abuse, and ended in 2014.

In the wake of the public humiliation following that report, as well as a series of reports questioning how Mr Melaye is able to afford the lifestyle of a king on the salary of a public servant, he suffered another meltdown and appeared in the Senate Chambers dressed up as a Babalawo.

Earlier this year, in a contribution on the floor of the Senate concerning the need for Nigerians to patronize made-in-Nigeria goods, Melaye criticized Edo state Governor Adams Oshiomhole for “importing his wife” rather than marrying a Nigerian woman.  Mrs. Lara Oshiomhole is from Cape Verde.

In response, the governor noted that it is no secret that Senator Melaye cannot maintain a decent matrimonial home, hence his ability to descend to using the hallowed chambers of the Senate “to ‘cargorise’ women as if they were pieces of items for purchase.”

Dismissing him, Governor Oshiomhole said: “Any responsible individual that is truly worth to be called a Senator, a position that convokes respect, decorum, and decent public conduct, should know the limits of his verbal diarrhoea.” [His] outbursts have become more frequent from Melaye, who gained considerable notoriety for protesting against Mrs Oduah following her BMW car scandal in 2014 during her tenure as Minister of Aviation. It will be recalled that last February in Lagos, Melaye refused to answer questions concerning his August 2015 New York tattoo removal at a time he was supposed to have been at the 4th United Nations Conference of Parliamentary Heads with Senate President Bukola Saraki.

Melaye also became very hostile to newsmen when asked about how he has amassed enough wealth to purchase his many cars and properties in Nigeria. He subsequently went on to become one of the major proponents of the social media bill, which was laughed out of relevance and out of the Senate by Nigerians.

Nigerians have been criticizing Senator Melaye in droves. Reports on his latest meltdown has attracted hundreds of comments. Further revelations regarding then Senate close-door session suggests that the Kogi state senator accused some senators of being used by the presidency to destabilise the Senate and warned them to be ready to face the consequences of their action.

“You should go and tell those who sent you that nobody, I said nobody, no matter who he is, can ever control this Senate, ”  Melaye was quoted as saying as he pointed at the affected senators, his face contorted in rage. The Senate closed-door meeting was reportedly a very dirty session.

Premium Times reports that during the meeting, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe (PDP-Abia) called on the Senate to go for President Muhammadu Buhari’s “jugular”. When colleagues asked him what he meant, the senator said it had become clear that Buhari had no respect for the Senate and that the time had come for him to be impeached. Abaribe said the president was encouraging his subordinates to disrespect the upper chamber and that only two options were now open to the senate – go for the president’s jugular (impeachment) or continue to seek reconciliation that might not work.

Melaye on Wednesday, July 13 said reports that he was planning to initiate impeachment proceeding against President Buhari were untrue. But he was silent on reports that he threatened Senator Tinubu or used the “F” word on her. The Kogi senator could not be reached as of the time of filing this report to make further clarification on this controversial issue.

Meanwhile, the Lagos state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says Senator Dino Melaye needs psychiatric examination over his threat to beat up Senator Oluremi Tinubu, representing Lagos Central. Melaye had threatened to beat up Tinubu and ‘impregnate’ her on the floor of the Senate, a statement that had elicited wide condemnation but which Melaye denied.

Reacting to this verbal assault against Senator Tinubu in a statement, Joe Igbokwe, Lagos APC publicity secretary, described Melaye’s outbursts as unguarded and reckless.

“We take it that this is a slip of tongue but if it is indeed true that this statement came from the heart of Dino Melaye, we need a psychiatric doctor to examine the state of his mind.” “His actions and deeds in recent times have contributed in no uncertain terms to various setbacks we have witnessed in the 8th Senate since its inception on June 9, 2015.

The hallowed chamber of the Senate of the federal republic of Nigeria is a prestigious place for the serious-minded, cerebral men and women, men and women of honour and integrity, those who can hold their heads when others are losing theirs, experienced but humble men and women. It is not for lunatics, rascals, street urchins, ethically challenged bigots or integrity challenged charlatans. It seems to us in Lagos APC that Senator Dino Melaye has reached a point of diminishing returns,” the statement said.

The statement added that: “The unstable and funny man from Kogi State has reached a point where there is no other place to go but to go down irretrievably. He can only go down with his likes and not with our own Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the highly revered, honoured and distinguished wife of our National leader, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. “Lagos APC wants Dino Melaye to move quickly to apologize to Senator Oluremi Tinubu and her beloved husband, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and have the statement credited to him withdrawn without any further delay.”
