Members of the Senate and House of Representatives have received a huge allowance for the 6 weeks recess from August 13.
Daily Trust reports that senators, reps have been paid N93million.
It should be noted that the National Assembly members had boarded on the vacation after 14 days of session without any discussion.
They are to resume sitting on September 29.
The payment is apparently 10 % of the yearly basic salary of the lawmakers as specified in the remuneration package for political, public and judicial office holders in Nigeria by the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
Differently to the three other vacations that they have embarked upon, the ongoing recess is their legal annual holiday.
The report also notes that the National Assembly members have been paid their accommodation allowance as well as what is labeled 28 days allowance.
It would be recalled that before going on recess, the legislators had stormy session over the move by the Senate leaders to reduce their salaries and allowances after the slash down of the yearly budget of the National Assembly from N150bn to N120bn.
