US President, Barack Obama is set to play host to his Nigerian counterpart, Muhammadu Buhari on July 20, 2015, the White House has said.
Obama will welcome Buhari to Washington as a ‘symbolic show of confidence’ after Nigeria’s successful democratic transition.
This was disclosed via a statement released by the White House on Thursday, June 25.
“President Obama will host Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari at the White House,” the statement read adding that the visit will show the US’ “support for the Nigerian people following their historic democratic elections and peaceful transfer of power.”
Buhari and Obama were both attendees at the recently concluded G7 summit but it’s not clear if the men had a one-on-one meeting during the summit.
